I haven’t really read much of Elizabeth Jolley’s work, however I thought that this would be a great way to see how romance is currently being looked at in the academic world.
Welcome by Helen Merrick
Welcome to country by Mrs McGuire
Address by Caroline Lurie, Literary Executor for Elizabeth Jolley
- friend of Elizabeth
- gave an overview of Elizabeth’s live and relationships – theme of triangular relationships in her personal lives and also in her writings.
- not interested in conventional romance, but interested in relationships outside conventional boundaries
- had compassion for the outsider figure, this was a recurring motif in many of her works
- also had a real love for the landscape – appreciation for it that verged on the spiritual (particularly after moving to WA, so different from the industrial England she had grown up in)
